Performance and construction
Solar trackers SUNFLOWER ST series increase the energy output of PV array about 30% - 50% compared to the fixed PV array with the same rated output power. The tracking bifacial modules even double the energy gain against fixed monofacial modules (Fig.1). Concerning the PV pumping systems, there can be up to 150% surplus pumping capacity for trackers. Nearly constant 90 degree angle of solar radiation during working period enable to use tracked solar arrays without electronic Maximum Power Point Controllers (MPPC) because variation of the volt-ampere working point of PV-cells can be kept closer to Maximum Rated.
Tracked array produce energy early in the morning and late afternoon. It is more suitable for battery-less applications. Even when batteries are used, their capacity can be lower. Because the efficiency of usual lead-acid batteries is 80%, the efficiency of the system with limited battery use is higher compared to the system where substantial amount of energy has to be stored.
Heavy-duty low speed motor is completely protected against overload. Electronic Control Unit works in 2 seconds pulse working and 60 seconds waiting period mode. Two Photovoltaic Diodes always pointing the unit to the brightest spot in sky. MOSFET transistors make Control Unit more reliable compared to the conventional units on relays. During accelerated tests tracker performed 4,000 tracking cycles, representing 11 years of field operation. Little wear only has been observed on components of the driving unit.
